Recently Jairus got a new set of Legos. It was a super hero set... LEGO Marvel Thor vs Hulk Arena Clash to be exact. It was cool and JJ so badly wanted his creation to look just the picture on the box. This set came with directions and he was trying to follow those directions ever so carefully even to the point of wanting Ash and Daddy to build some of it for him because he was afraid he’d mess it up. I told him that he didn’t have to follow the directions... that those were just guidelines to make it exactly like the picture and he could actually make something even cooler. The point, after all, was to just have fun with them and build and this was becoming much too stressful to be considered fun. I also reminded him that he had a whole big box of legos in his closet that he could use to build an even bigger set. He opted to continue to try and follow the directions and not mix his new set up with his old. He got discouraged, quit for the day and has yet to go back and finish. I had a picture of how I have done this at times. I come to a new situation with a skill set that went with that specific job. I’ve tried so hard to follow the direction to look just like the “picture” that I was given not realizing the freedom I actually had in accomplishing the objective that could make it so much more! God is a creative God (literally)! I believe he has put into each of us our own creativity to add more wonder and awe to His creation. When I don’t let those juices flow, the outcome isn’t nearly as beautiful or sometimes effective as it could have been. I also thought about how God can use my past experiences and other gifts (the box full of legos) to help and bless those in my current assignments. I don’t want to ever limit what God can make through me! May He always use all the pieces... new and old. Thankful for these lessons He taught me from the Legos!
