I wanted to share something in my reading of John 11 today (where Lazarus dies and Jesus brings Him back to life) that gave me greater understanding into this story. After the miracle is recorded this statement appears...verse 54 “Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the people of Judea.d Instead he withdrew to a region near the wilderness, to a village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.” Jesus would have known this! He knew his current situation was an opportunity that would soon be gone. Jesus also knew Martha & Mary’s love and devotion to Him. He knew they could handle this. Jesus weighed and He chose what was best for eternity’s sake. I remember a specific time in my life, a string of heartbreaks had occurred and someone said... “I can’t believe this is happening to Amy, she loves Him so much!” As I pondered that thought, God helped me understand why He didn’t answer the way I had asked... 3 main reasons... 1. He knew I could handle it and still love Him just as much. 2. There are so many players on the chess board... He sees the whole game and knows the pieces to move and when. And 3. This world needs to know how to suffer well and love Jesus with all your heart at the same time. It is a powerful tool in His hands! It still hurt and was still hard but I know my Jesus’ love for me and those circumstances had nothing to do with the lack thereof! Trust Jesus. He weighs and chooses what is best for eternity each and every time!
